The Report of the Citizens Assembly on Gender Equality includes "gender identity" in its definition of gender; and it's the Citizens Assembly report which informs the work of the Joint Committee on Gender Equality.
From the Citizens Assembly chair Dr Catherine Day: "Our gender identity affects many aspects of our lives. From the outset, it seemed to me that the Assembly should treat gender equality as a matter for everyone, regardless of their gender identity."
"It should be noted that the Oireachtas resolution establishing the Assembly refers to women and men, girls and boys. However, for the purposes of this consultation, please understand ‘gender’ to refer to any and all options in terms of gender identity."
